Assistant Professor

Department of Biology

Utah State University

I joined USU Biology in 2021 after completing postdoctoral research in flower metabolomics at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology (Potsdam, Germany) and Wageningen University (the Netherlands) sponsored by a Marie-Curie Fellowship. Previous to that, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at North Carolina State University on metabolic engineering of volatile organic compounds. In my first postdoctoral cycle, I worked on plant ionomics at Purdue University and the University of Tokyo, Japan (JSPS Fellow).

I have completed the Ph.D. under the supervision of Prof. Fernie at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology, Potsdam, Germany where I identified key transcription factors regulating the tomato fruit ripening process. Then, I was a postdoc in Dr. Gitanjali Yadav’s lab at NIPGR, New Delhi, where I studied the molecular mechanisms underlying abiotic stress tolerance in chickpea. Next, I joined Dr. Tanushri Kaul’s lab at ICGEB, New Delhi, where I  worked on abiotic stress responses in pigeonpea, and SNP and INDEL analyses of chlorophyll biosynthesis mutants of rice.

Siefeldin Sobih, Master Student

I graduated from Cairo University, Faculty of Agriculture's Biotechnology program with great enthusiasm for bioinformatics applications. I have a strong desire to develop programs that can enhance the work of biologists, coupled with a keen interest in delving into the domains of plant metabolism, growth, and development. I am thrilled to be a part of this lab as it offers me a stimulating opportunity to explore and evolve as a proficient researcher, fully prepared to undertake high-level research.

Keelee Storrud, URCO Undergraduate Research Fellow

I am a biochemistry student in my third year here at Utah State. I am from a small town in Western Montana. I enjoy learning about science and how it can impact everything around us.

Mia Huebner, Undergraduate Research

I'm from Logan, Utah, and am currently a second-year student pursuing a degree in Cellular/Molecular Biology at Utah State. When I'm not at school, I'm either hiking, sipping coffee at a local cafe, or nurturing my houseplants. I love learning about the inner workings of living things, especially plants, and how they add to the world around us!
